Asian Le Mans Round 2 – Race 3 & 4

Race 4 of the 2016 Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup Round 2 saw Ate de Jong and Charlie Robertson bring home the win in their #67 PRT Racing Ginetta LMP3. Behind them were the #27 Nexus Infinity ADESS 03 in second and the #48 PS Racing ADESS 03 taking third. Over at the GTCup class, Team NZ’s #77Porsche GT3 Cup took the win once again followed by the #28 Team Lotus HK Lotus Evora GTC.

PRT Racing had a great start from third place on the grid thanks to Charlie Robertson, who shot pass the #1 DC Racing Ligier (who had lost a tyre on the warm up lap) and overtook the #94 WINEURASIA Ligier JSP3 within the first few turns. From there on out, the #67 Ginetta LMP3 basically led from start to finish with an impressive gap of 45 seconds to the second car  by the time the pit window opened as well as setting the fastest lap time of 2 minutes 1.860 seconds.

However the real battle was happening behind them as Aidan Read in the #94 WINEURASiA Ligier JSP3 and Garnet Patterson in the #27 Nexus Infinity ADESS 03 jostled for second spot. But as luck would have it, WINEURASIA suffered a broken driveshaft and the #94 Ligier JSP3 came to a halt on track relinquishing second place to Patterson who in turn kept that spot and passed it onto Adrian D’Silva to bring the #27 ADESS 03 home for a podium finish.

Garnet Patterson, #27 Nexus Infinity ADESS 03
“It’s been a pretty whirlwind weekend with yesterday, in qualifying, the gearbox went bang. It was a bit of a hard night trying to put something together for today. We luckily got a new gearbox at 11:30 today, which was quite a quick turnaround. The guys at Nexus Infinity did an awesome job to put the car back together for the start of the race at 2. I got a really good start, got around the outside of Aidan for P2. Pushed as hard as we could, but Aidan had a bit more speed and got past us, then unfortunately had a problem. It was a really good race, Adrian did a good job keeping it in 2nd place for the rest of the race with the car we had. We’re getting faster and faster. Big thanks to Adrian and everyone at Nexus for being there this weekend and getting us out for the 2nd race.”

With less than a month away before the final round of the Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup, Race 5 and 6 will take place on the 3rd and 4th September 2016 at Sepang International Circuit, where a champion will be crowned and win an entry into the Asian Le Mans Series which starts at the end of October in Zhuhai, China.
